Meanings: 'to fit' (be the right size) and 'to suit' (match/style). Regular weak verb; participle 'gepasst', gerund 'passend'. Uses auxiliary 'haben'. Important: with people the person takes the dative (Das Hemd passt mir). Often pairs with 'zu' for 'match' (Das passt zu...). Not reflexive.
Examples
Die Schuhe passten ihm nicht.
The shoes didn't fit him.
Der Käufer bemerkte, dass das Hemd nicht passte, obwohl er normalerweise immer diese Größe trug.
The buyer noticed that the shirt did not fit, although he normally always wore that size.
