oft means 'often' or 'frequently', an adverb of frequency used to indicate repeated occurrence. It does not govern case or take prepositions. Position is flexible but commonly appears before the main verb or after the subject (Ich gehe oft). Comparative: öfter; superlative: am häufigsten (or am öftesten).
Examples
Ich gehe oft spazieren.
I often go for a walk.
Der Arzt berichtete, dass die Patienten früher oft lange warten mussten, weil die Praxis zu klein war.
The doctor reported that the patients often had to wait a long time in the past because the practice was too small.
