Two common senses and paradigms:
- Intransitive 'hängen' (to be hanging): strong paradigm — Präteritum 'hing', Partizip II 'gehangen' (e.g. 'es hing', 'es hat gehangen').
- Transitive 'hängen' (to hang something): weak paradigm — Präteritum 'hängte', Partizip II 'gehängt' (e.g. 'er hängte das Bild', 'er hat das Bild gehängt').
The passive is possible only with the transitive sense (e.g. 'Das Bild wird gehängt'). Both paradigms are given in the conjugation forms where applicable.
